Derrick Johnson got to do it; Now Anthony Sherman will get his turn.
The Kansas City Chiefs fullback will drive the pace car at Kansas Speedway’s upcoming NASCAR event, the MONSTER ENERGY CUP SERIES 400, set to take place on May 12. The pace car sets the positions for drivers in a warm-up lap or laps before a race and can later return to control the pace in temporarily hazardous conditions.
Sherman is an avid fan of motor sports, so one would assume this is a bucket-list item for the Chiefs fullback.
And he certainly earned it.
Many will remember last year’s Week 17 game for Patrick Mahomes’ first career start, but we at Arrowhead Pride also acknowledge it as The Anthony Sherman Game.

With the Chiefs resting most of their starters, Sherman bulldozed his way to 40 rushing yards on 14 carries, 21 receiving yards on three catches and a rushing touchdown.
Sherman also helped organize the Chiefs’ pit-stop celebration after a 64-yard Tyreek Hill touchdown against the Los Angeles Chargers last season.
From last night: Kansas City @Chiefs took a page from the #NASCAR playbook with a pit-stop touchdown celebration. @ClintBowyer and @MRMetcalfJr seem to approve. --> https://t.co/qYhuE4C97w pic.twitter.com/gXT2O6Gckx

There’s number 42, just changing a couple tires. In two weekends, he will be working the track for real.
