Phase one of the Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason workout program began on Monday, and a number of rehabbing players had an opportunity to speak to the media.

Here were the updates they each provided when asked about their current status:

WR Chris Conley (ruptured Achilles)

  • “I’m feeling good. It should say something that [Chiefs public relations] are letting me up here talking to y’all. They’re pretty strict about that ... the offseason’s gone well. I spent the majority of it here and it’s just good to be back in the locker room around people in the same time that they’re in the locker room and in meetings the same time that they’re in meetings.”
  • “Right now, it’s kind of interesting because I have to not only do what I want to do and what I feel I can do, but I also have to work with everyone else in this building—that’s coaches and trainers. And so, right now, I think this first phase is really us determining what all of our goals are right now for me playing. You know me, I get anxious, but I have to listen to them and do things in the right now, so I should find out in this first phase what I will be doing for the next phases that come after it.”

LB Dee Ford (back surgery)

  • “[I feel] excellent ... We’re taking it day-by-day. I feel excellent and with this thing, you want to time it right so we’re really taking it week-by-week, so I’ll go back to see my doctor here soon. We’re just taking it week-by-week.”

DL Chris Jones (torn MCL)

  • “[Rehab] is going well...Whatever Rick (Burkholder) has planned for me, I just trust and believe in Rick that they’re going to have me ready. Whatever plan they have for me, I’m just going to take the necessary steps.”

C Mitch Morse (foot surgery)

  • “[The foot’s] coming along real well. Just taking it day-by-day. I’m in cahoots with Rick Burkholder and Barry Rubin and those guys. I can’t say enough about those guys and the dedication they’ve brought to me. Hopefully, I’ve reciprocated that. We’ve made great progress on the injury and we’re just taking it day-by-day. I have no timeline. I can’t give you all specifics on what’s going what’s not going on, and not because I don’t want to, it’s because I have no idea because I’m clueless in most aspects of my life. We’re just taking it day-by-day and it’s going really well.”
  • “You want to be ready to play football [at training camp], and you don’t want to miss much football at all, so we’ll just take it day-by-day. I know as cliché as that sounds, it’s the truth. I’ve been with doctors and all that stuff, checking off every little bit you can as time progresses and following protocol, its been real well.”

RB Spencer Ware (torn MCL, knee damage)

  • “I think [the training staff’s] lines of communication are open, so just taking it day-by-day and I guess we’ll see when the time is right.”
