Terez Paylor's mock draft for Chiefs' picks, version 1.0 | The Kansas City Star

SECOND ROUND

TE Mike Gesicki, Penn State (54th overall): I know, I know. “But Terez, what about the defense,” you’re probably yelling at home. Trust me, as the man who had to watch this team all of last year, I’m well in tune with how badly the defense needs reinforcements across the board. Actual pick: CB Tre'Davious White (by Bills)

Do-over pick: RB Dalvin Cook

Cook had 444 yards from scrimmage in four games for the Vikings as a second-round pick who won the starting job. He suffered a season-ending injury and the Vikings didn't miss a beat with Jerick McKinnon and Latavius Murray. The Chiefs relied heavily on rookie running back Kareem Hunt, a third-round pick in reality who already is gone by this point in the re-draft.

It’s hard to gauge how his usage might change in 2018, under a new offensive scheme, but it was encouraging to hear new head coach Matt Nagy draw similarities between Cohen and Tyreek Hill.

How many running backs the Chiefs wind up keeping is becoming just as interesting as the names in it. Williams will be among Kareem Hunt, Charcandrick West, Spencer Ware, Akeem Hunt and Damien Williams all fighting for roster spots in August.

NFL Draft 2018: Offensive tackle makes some sense for the Chiefs

I’ve wondered if the Chiefs would select a tackle high this year so that said tackle would have time to sit and learn. That’s key because offensive linemen coming out of college these days are not as well-established in the pro game as they were a few years ago.
