PODCAST: Key takeaways from the NFL Scouting Combine

Does the NFL Scouting Combine really matter?

People ask this all the time. If used correctly, it absolutely does.

Athletic testing is important to draft grades with varying amounts of value depending on the position. Justis Mosqueda has done some excellent work to show the value of athletic testing for EDGE rushers for instance.

My co-host, Jake and I give several positions the ability to adjust their score +/- 3% based on their athletic testing results. There were a few guys whose grades were bumped up or reduced as a result of what found out this weekend.

Several grades for us changed both positively and negatively. On this week’s episode of the AP Chiefs Draft Show, we profiled four prospects that stood out (good and bad).

The goal of the Draftmas List is to build a pool of prospects I want the Chiefs to select from. I’ve profiled ten players so far. We talk about two on this week’s show, and add two more to the list that we haven’t talked about.

Listen on the player below or click here (we will be adding the show to iTunes and Google Play soon).

On the show: 3:05 - NFL Buzz from the Combine, 5:09 - Grade adjustments from Combine athletic testing COMBINE PROSPECT STANDOUTS (GOOD AND BAD): 8:10 - Mike Gesicki, 15:00 - Tim Settle, 20:07 - Kylie Fitts, 25:14 - Josh Sweat, 29:53 - Scouting Term of the Week
