The Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to fill a couple of holes in the draft this year, notably as pass rusher and perhaps receiver and now cornerback. The Chiefs need a pass rusher and if they lose Albert Wilson in free agency they could stand to draft another receiver this April. Once this Marcus Peters trade goes through, they could be looking at more corner depth.
The bad part is that, according to Mike Mayock who talked with Peter King, receiver and pass rusher are thin positions in the draft this year.
Mayock pointed out how bad the first-round receivers have been in the past three years. Just one (Amari Cooper) has really stood out of the 13 drafted in the first round. The good thing for the Chiefs is they can’t make that mistake because ... they don’t have a first round pick. (As of now. There are still young, superstar cornerbacks to trade)
Mayock also calls the edge rushers a thin position group this year. That is my No. 1 position of need for the Chiefs this year. Justin Houston was a third round pick so it’s not impossible to find very, very good players in the second and third round of the draft. The Chiefs gotta hope they find one because they need the pass rusher.
As for corner, it’s still early in the draft process. The rankings you see coming out now are not going to be the final rankings. Suffice to say, corner will be on the board for the Chiefs this year.
