The Kansas City Chiefs are adding a free agent running back named Damien Williams. He visited the Chiefs earlier this week and he is expected to sign with them, according to his agent.

There are contract details, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. It’s a one-year deal.
The #Chiefs are signing RB Damien Williams, per agent @iangreengross. He gets 1-year for $1.5M. He’s coming off shoulder surgery and will miss most of the offseason. Should be available for training camp, the team hopes.

We’ll see how that contract is structured and whether it means he will definitely make the roster or not. The Chiefs could save more than a million bucks cutting Spencer Ware or Charcandrick West.
The Chiefs visited with a couple of backs this week, Williams and former Seahawk Thomas Rawls. Getting a running back is interesting because the Chiefs have Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West behind Kareem Hunt and both are under contract for the 2018 season.
I expect Hunt to be the workhorse again this year but West did provide plenty of help down the stretch in the passing game so the No. 2 back will see some work.
Williams came into the league with the Dolphins in 2014 as an undrafted free agent. Interestingly, he has more career receiving yards (733) than rushing yards (477) so I wonder if that’s what attracted the Chiefs to him. He’s had between 20 and 23 catches in each of the past four seasons.
A Dolphins reporter wrote this about him:
Dolphins lose a dynamic playmaker and fun dude as RB Damien Williams signs with Kansas City.

Another one of my favorite people in the Dolphins locker room leaves. Damien Williams is funny, enthusiastic and an overall good person to deal with. Very disappointing to see him go.
