It was odd to me that Dustin Colquitt was heading to free agency and nobody seemed to really care. He was the longest tenured Chief (2005) and now here he is hitting the open market.
As it turns out, nobody was worried because there’s nothing to be worried about. The Chiefs think he’ll be back very soon.
“I feel like Dustin Colquitt is something that’s moving in a positive direction and that should be announced soon,” Chiefs GM Brett Veach said on Wednesday.
I thought I was taking crazy pills thinking maybe the Chiefs are going to draft a punter or find one in free agency but that’s not the case. Colquitt is a valuable member of the team but I’m sure the Chiefs hope to drop that cap number of $4.9 million from last year.
“We’re more just working to reach a happy medium and I think that will get done probably tomorrow,” Veach said.
Good news for the Chiefs and their special teams. Colquitt is very much a Kansas Citian so I am not going to be surprised when he retires a Chief one day. That just won’t be today.
