The Kansas City Chiefs will trade cornerback Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Chiefs are expected to trade CB Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams, sources tell ESPN. Teams are in final stages of talks and barring an unexpected snag, the trade is expected to be agreed to as early as today.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 23, 2018
The word is that the Chiefs will receive a “package of draft picks” in exchange for Peters, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star is hearing that there are some unhappy Chiefs in the locker room.
Already hearing some rumblings about some current Chiefs being upset about this potential Marcus Peters trade. Compensation will be interesting— Terez A. Paylor (@TerezPaylor) February 23, 2018
Paylor also reported that the Chiefs and Rams have been working on the trade for some time.
The Chiefs have spent the last three weeks on this deal, and only the Rams and 49ers were interested, a source tells me. Multiple sources also tell me the Browns were NOT interested— Terez A. Paylor (@TerezPaylor) February 23, 2018
Rapoport noted that the Los Angeles Rams were the only real team interested in trading for Peters.
.@MikeGarafolo says the #49ers interest in #Chiefs CB Marcus Peters was lukewarm. I’d add the #Browns are described as the same. This wasn’t a showdown between the #49ers and #Rams. It was all LA and KC when it came down to it.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 23, 2018
For a player of Peters’ talent, I believe this information is somewhat telling. It sounds like there was only one team in the league willing to make the move, which means San Francisco and Cleveland (John Dorsey, who drafted Peters) could not have been crazy about what they had heard.
More here as it develops.
