KC Chiefs CB David Amerson film review: depth, depth, depth | Arrowhead Pride
We’ll come back to the structure of this deal, which I loved more and more as I watched Amerson’s film. Because once you get past that icky Raider black he’s always wearing, there are some things to like about him. I reviewed a game in 2015, a game in 2017, and three games in 2016 to try and get a full idea of who Amerson has been these last few years. Is he the guy with great ball skills that Raiders fans were raving about two years ago?
Derrick Johnson posts final goodbye to Kansas City | Arrowhead Pride
It’s hard to continue to feel fine about Johnson leaving as you read words like, “I wish I could play for the Chiefs forever but that’s not the reality.”
More talk emerges of a potential Marcus Peters trade | ProFootballTalk
PFT explained on Sunday that some in the league have wondered whether the Chiefs will try to move Peters. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports tweeted on Monday that he “continue[s] to hear chatter that Marcus Peters may not be long for KC.”
It may make a little more sense once Johnson signs his next deal, but you have to question the decision to let him walk when he has made it abundantly clear he would have taken a pay cut to stay.
D.J. Swearinger at peace with Alex Smith trade | NFL.com
"I think we can be better," Swearinger said when asked if Washington will improve after the trade is completed. "I think we can be better. I don't know what Alex (Smith) as a leadership standpoint brings, but I hear he is a great player. I see he is a great player. He's done a lot of great things in this league. A Pro Bowl guy and I can't wait to get with him and get some championships going."
Ranking every NFL team by their ability to get better this offseason | For The Win
In order to get a good picture of which teams will have the resources to do so (and which teams will not), we’ve put together what we’re calling the NFL offseason asset rankings. The methodology is simple, we’ve ranked every team based on how much cap space they’ll have (via Spotrac) and how much value they can expect to add in the draft based on Chase Stuart’s “Draft Value Chart.”
NFL franchise tags 2018: Which players will be tagged by teams?
As a refresher, the franchise tag provides a one-year, guaranteed contract equal to the average of the top five salaries at a player's position or 120% of his salary the previous season if that represents a higher value. Franchising a player doesn’t preclude a team from reaching a long-term deal, inevitably one that's more cap friendly, by July 16.
2018 NFL Scouting Combine: Ten receivers I'm excited to watch | NFL.com's Steve Smith
When I came into the NFL in 2001, it seemed that most of the tall, freakishly athletic guys played the wide receiver position. Today, it feels as if many of those guys are defensive backs. And, as my colleague Matt Harmon recently chronicled, they are dominating the league right now. I mean, some Pro Bowlers fell to the bonus notes below Harmon's top-10 list -- that's how good this group of players is.
Ex-NFL GM: Lamar Jackson too 'short' and 'slight,' should switch to WR for NFL Draft | CBSSports.com
"I think wide receiver. Exceptional athlete. Exceptional ability to make you miss. Exceptional acceleration. Exceptional instinct with the ball in his hand -- and that's rare for wide receivers," Polian said. "[Antonio Brown] and who else? Name me another one who's like that. Julio [Jones]'s not like that. This guy is incredible in the open field. Great ability to separate. Short and a little bit slight and clearly, clearly not the thrower the other guys are."
Bridgewater: 2017 was 'probably my favorite season' | NFL.com
"It was probably my favorite season by far, even though I didn't play much," Bridgewater told ESPN's Courtney Cronin. "This season challenged my mindset because as bad as I wanted to be out there playing, being the competitor that I am, I wanted to go to war and go to battle with my guys, I had to be out there in a different aspect. I had to be there for the guys mentally.
"It gave me a different role and I accepted it. It was one that was hard to accept because I'm a competitor, but I wouldn't trade this year for nothing."
