The Derrick Johnson caught me by surprise in that I didn’t expect it to come down on a random Tuesday afternoon but it is unfortunately not a surprise overall that the Chiefs decided to move on given’ DJ’s age and cap hit.
Chiefs fans and the rest of the NFL world reacted to the news that DJ will become a free agent.
This is why the Chiefs don’t want Derrick Johnson back, despite him willing to take less money. I’ll probably post this when they cut Tamba, too. And Ron Parker. https://t.co/SXIWQAwOnp

What an incredible run by Derrick Johnson in KC. The definition of a glue guy. 13 seasons, overcame 2 Achiles tears.

"I think he's disappointed. I don't think there's any hard feelings what so ever. More than anyone I've ever seen, he loved being a Chief. Derrick wanted to be here and he was willing to bend." - @TerezPaylor on the #Chiefs making Derrick Johnson a FA.

Mt. Rushmore of Derrick Johnson’s career moments:

-Two TD’s in one game vs Denver
-Trucking Oakland’s Richard
-Four straight GL stops vs. Oak
-Reverse-forward progressing Mariota
Since being drafted in 2005, Derrick Johnson owns the 2nd most tackles in the entire NFL. During that same time, DJ has more than twice as many tackles as the Chiefs next closest defender.

Its been an honor watching you play DJ. What a truly incredible career in KC. Thank you!
A first-round pick in 2005, Derrick Johnson went on to tally the most tackles (1,262) and defensive starts (169) in franchise history over his 13-year career.

What a run for Johnson in Kansas City.
I don;t think the national media realizes how great Derrick Johnson was. I'd put him against any ILB this decade, and feel very good about my argument.

Thinking out loud with Terez just know and this is irrefutable: Derrick Johnson gave the Chiefs more than he got back in return.
