10-2. Whew. What a time to be a Chiefs fan.
So, an update on a couple of Arrowhead Pride things: With the Chiefs having a great season, we are seeing a lot of new readers, which is great. We’ve been a growing community for a long time and continue to attract new folks who want to participate. You can get Chiefs news and analysis from a lot of places, but the community here at AP is one of things that separates us.
That’s why I think it’s important that we re-stress to our community guidelines to make AP as welcoming of a place for everyone. You can read those guidelines here. I have asked Pete to keep these in mind as we review the comments on the site and interactions on social.
On Kareem Hunt specifically, we made the decision to close the comments on our initial coverage of the situation. This decision wasn’t made lightly. It’s our responsibility to foster civil discussion on AP and, along with Pete, we decided that some — not all — of the early emotional responses didn’t fit our values or deliver the type of community we want to offer. Given how quickly the story was developing and the speed of the new comments coming in — thousands per day — it was best to keep those closed for the time being.
This will be reevaluated as we go. Our overall goal is to continue to make the AP community great and welcoming for everyone, and we’ll re-open comments under stories about the Hunt video when it feels like we can do live up to that goal. Thank you all for reading and for participating in our community.
