Chiefs bring back S Leon McQuay to the practice squad

After a short stint as a free agent, the Chiefs safety returns to the practice squad.

The Kansas City Chiefs brought back safety Leon McQuay to the practice squad Monday after terminating his contract just five days ago. Tight end David Wells, signed last month, had his practice-squad contract terminated to make room for McQuay.

McQuay, 23, originally joined the Chiefs as sixth-round pick back during the 2017 NFL Draft.

McQuay’s lone regular-season action came last year during the Chiefs’ meaningless Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos. He recorded four tackles and took one kick return during the contest.

The Chiefs could be bringing back McQuay as a precaution given the injuries last game to both Eric Murray and Armani Watts. Jordan Lucas, normally a special teamer and the final safety on the Chiefs’ roster, logged 56 snaps on defense against the Jaguars.
