Welcome to another edition of the Beer of the Week!

As always, the Beer of the Week is originally presented on the Arrowhead Pride Tailgate on 610 Sports Radio as part of my Defense and Beer of the Week segment.

Typically, I try to bring you a beer that is readily available in the Kansas City area, as well as from the area of the opponent the Chiefs are playing. Unfortunately, none of the fine breweries from Jacksonville (or much of the south, for that matter) distribute to the area. So I called another audible this week and went with one of my favorite lesser-known beers.

This week’s Beer of the Week is Against the Grain Brewery Citra Ass Down!

An 8.2% Double IPA, this beer is not to be taken lightly. With the hazy/juicy/NE IPA craze taking over the IPA scene, it’s nice to have a go-to double that is crisp, clean and dry. The pale, vienna, munich and wheat malts give this beer a big, complex malt base and the aggressive Columbus and Citra hop additions give it the perfect nose and hop balance. For those of you that are staunch Pliny the Elder or Heady Topper supporters, toss one of these in your rotation and see it compare favorably.

Against the Grain Brewery is located in Louisville, Kentucky in a former train station connected to Louisville Slugger Field. They rarely brew the same brew twice, boasting hundreds of different recipes in six different categories: Hop, Smoke, Dark, Malt, Session, and Whim. They’re brash with their ingredients and their names. Beers like Pile of Face, The Brown Note and Bloody Show are certainly attention-grabbing amongst the crowded craft beer scene. Most of all, Against the Grain showcases a dedication to beer, with high quality across the board in all their offerings.

So if you can, make sure to swing by your local liquor store and scoop up some Against the Grain Brewery Citra Ass Down this weekend!
