The Chiefs wouldn’t come up short again on their way to a 30-23 victory, with touchdowns on their other three visits to the red zone.
”What’s that cutoff point for an offensive lineman to be legally down the field in pass pro?” Wolfe said, via ESPN. “When is a guy offsides and when is he not? Is it 12 yards now?”
The Kansas City Chiefs have as many touchdown passes, 26, through a half-season as they had through all of 2017.
The most significant change is at quarterback, of course, where Patrick Mahomes has replaced Alex Smith.
We seem to talk about the Chiefs’ offense every week, so instead we’re going to use this game to talk about Dee Ford. Ford abused the Broncos’ offensive line to the tune of three sacks, including a fourth quarter sack where he caused a Case Keenum fumble that Kansas City recovered. Overall, the Chiefs sacked Keenum five times. Offensively, Patrick Mahomes (303 yards, four touchdowns) found someone to throw to besides Tyreek Hill and that player was Sammy Watkins. Watkins caught eight passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
The Cheetah goes sumo
Kansas City Chiefs receiver/returner Tyreek Hill, who is arguably the fastest player in the league (he goes by @Cheetah on Twitter) and of course quite svelte, went the irony route. He showed up to Arrowhead Stadium in an inflatable sumo wrestler costume:
The defense isn’t going to be perfect, but the Chiefs can count on at least some help from that side of the ball each week. The Chiefs have received something of value -- whether some key stops or a crucial turnover -- to help the cause in seven of eight games this season. That should only continue with upcoming games against the Browns and Cardinals. -- Adam Teicher
Hill appeared to tweak his groin on a long catch early in the game, and he left late in the fourth quarter. The injury doesn’t look serious, but the Chiefs would miss his speed and game-breaking ability. -- Adam Teicher
The win was the Chiefs’ 19th in their last 21 matchups against AFC West opponents, as the division leaders improved to 7-1 with their seventh straight win against the Broncos (3-5). After going three-and-out on its first drive, Kansas City scored on five consecutive possessions.
Around the league
On Sunday, he did just add, passing Hall of Famer Morten Andersen to become the NFL’s all-time leading scorer with 2,547 points. The record-setting score was a 25-yard field goal late in the second quarter against the Oakland Raiders.
The NFL trade deadline is fast approaching, and there are plenty of notable players who could be traded before Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. Here’s a rundown of the players who could be switching teams in the days ahead, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
As the Jaguars and Eagles meet today, in the wake of Jacksonville owner Shad Khan pulling out of a proposed deal to purchase Wembley Stadium in London, there is a growing sentiment for an expanded NFL platform there. League sources said one of the concepts gaining growing traction among league office execs and NFL owners is the idea of a “London season ticket” that would work much like a normal season ticket would in the U.S., with eight regular-season games, only with a few quirks.
But this year might be different. This year, as we arrive at the midway point of the 2018 regular season, Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurleyis on a special track—one that looks and feels a lot like those that carried MVP rushers Terrell Davis in 1998, Marshall Faulk in 2000, Shaun Alexander in 2005, LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006 and Adrian Peterson in 2012.
In case you missed it at Arrowhead Pride
The Kansas City Chiefs advance to 7-1 at the halfway point in their season, defeating the Denver Broncos 30-23 at Arrowhead Stadium on the strength of four towchdown passes by Patrick Mahomes — two of them to wide receiver Sammy Watkins.
Here are the winners and losers from Sunday’s game:
The Kansas City Chiefs started slow, finished slower, but still held on to defeat the Denver Broncos 30-23 on Sunday afternoon, completing a season sweep of their division rivals and advancing to 7-1 at the halfway mark of their season.
