NFL Network says Chiefs will listen to Alex Smith trade offers this offseason

I don’t blame the reporter and I don’t blame the team but it kinda sucks that a report about the Kansas City Chiefs possibly trading Alex Smith comes on the day of a big playoff game. It is what it is, I suppose.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Chiefs will be open to — but not necessarily seek out — trading Alex Smith this offseason. Rapoport mentioned the Browns with former Chiefs GM John Dorsey and the Cardinals as two teams to keep an eye on.

There aren’t a ton of specifics in the report probably because the Chiefs are still in the playoffs. I see this as a fluid situation. If Alex leads the Chiefs to the Super Bowl then this question might have a different answer a month from now. I bet the Chiefs don’t know for sure what they’re going to do yet.

One thing that did stand out to me is that Rapoport said the Chiefs could get more for Alex than the two second round picks they gave up for him five years ago. More than two second round picks would make it a little easier to move on from what appears to be the best Chiefs quarterback since Len Dawson (yes, including Trent Green).
