How Chiefs have done against mobile quarterbacks

I do my weekly spot on 610 Sports at 3:30 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) on Thursdays but this week I was asked to bump it to 4 p.m. so that Brian Billick could come in during my time spot. If I were going to be bumped, it better be by a Super Bowl winning head coach so fair enough.

Billick made an interesting note during his interview with Carrington Harrison and Brad Fanning on The Drive that I hadn’t realized. He said that mobile quarterbacks this year have done well against the Chiefs. He named specifically the TexansDeshaun Watson, CowboysDak Prescott and BillsTyrod Taylor who have combined for eight touchdown passes and zero interceptions against the Chiefs. (Carson Wentz had a good rushing day against KC but let’s stick with the names Billick threw out there).

The reason he brought this up is because Titans QB Marcus Mariota has some running ability as well. Last week, Mariota ran for 60 yards on 10 carries. However, he hadn’t had more than three carries in a game since November before that game. It’s not like it’s a staple of his game.

I keep going back to Mariota’s struggles this year as he’s thrown for more interceptions (15) than touchdowns (13). Running or not, if he throws more picks than touchdowns, this one is over. And if he’s flushed from the pocket 10 times like last week, I will consider that a good thing by the Chiefs defense.

It’s an interesting point but I’m not too concerned about Mariota’s running ability in this one.
