The Kansas City Chiefs are trading Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins for a third-round pick AND a player, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Trade term update: Washington is sending KC a third-round pick and an unidentified player for QB Alex Smith, per sources.

Schefter said earlier the Chiefs were looking for a second round pick so I wonder who the player is that might have offset the difference there. A Browns reporter said Cleveland also was trying to trade for Alex so presumably the Redskins package of a third and a player was better than the Browns offer.
We’ll await further analysis on this trade until we know who the player is. A third round pick by itself sounds a little low to me because the Chiefs could have kept Alex this year and recouped a compensatory pick next year as high as a third round pick.
Note that this trade can’t be official until the new league year in March.
