Despite calls for his job by local influencers, you the PrideHeads and jokingly in an AP video we shot earlier this month, head coach Andy Reid said the Kansas City Chiefs will keep defensive coordinator Bob Sutton heading into the 2018 season, according to the Kansas City Star’s Terez Paylor, who interviewed Reid Wednesday at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
I talked to Andy Reid today, and yes folks, the Chiefs are retaining defensive coordinator Bob Sutton: https://t.co/2DJyiVUO4W

“There’s nothing going on there,” Reid said, per Paylor. “I know everybody has their opinion on everything, just like they did when they wanted me to bench Alex (Smith). That turned out pretty good.
“So (replacing Sutton) is not where I’m at or have ever been. I don’t listen to any of that. I do what I think is right for the Kansas City Chiefs.”
When evaluating Sutton, it’s important to note the Chiefs lost both safety Eric Berry and outside linebacker Dee Ford for most of the season and were without cornerback Steve Nelson for nearly half of it.
Final regular-season team defensive numbers (2017)
- 28th in yards allowed per game (365.1 yards per game)
- 24th in sacks (31)
- 17th in forced fumbles (13)
- 15th in points allowed per game (21.2)
- 9th in interceptions (16)
