Chiefs enter 2018 offseason with a backup quarterback question too

We’re going to look at each of the Kansas City Chiefs free agents to decide whether the Chiefs should bring them back next year or let them walk. Our FanPosts had a good question on one of them the other day: What are the Chiefs going to do at backup quarterback?

Should the Chiefs re-sign Tyler Bray?

It actually is a question this year because Alex Smith could be traded and Tyler Bray is a free agent. Alex Smith did a great job of staying healthy the past five years and we don’t know if Mahomes will be the same way. They’re heading into the unknown if Alex Smith isn’t coming back.

So that leaves Tyler Bray. Should the Chiefs bring him back? Some of you will laugh and say he’s the third quarterback, it’s time to let him go. Sure, I can buy that. But I also wonder why the Chiefs kept him on the team for five years. Does his familiarity bring any value?

I tend to side against bringing him back. There’s always the chance he wants to work for the minimum again which, sure. He can be the third quarterback again. But I don’t want him on the team getting in the way of developing other quarterbacks. Always Be Developin’.
