Chiefs’ roster moves: CJ Spiller returns, Marcus Kemp elevated

Andy Reid made a couple of announcements on roster moves at his weekly press conference Tuesday afternoon:

  • The Chiefs placed WR De’Anthony Thomas (fractured leg) and RB Akeem Hunt (ankle) on the injured reserve list.
  • The Chiefs elevated WR Marcus Kemp from the practice squad to the 53-man roster and signed RB CJ Spiller, as first reported by Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star.

Spiller is back for a fifth time and likely will stick as the Chiefs’ third running back for the duration of the playoffs with Akeem Hunt done for the year.

As for Kemp, this is his second promotion to the active roster. He came up to the active roster for the Chiefs’ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, registering eight offensive snaps and four special teams snaps. He was released and signed back to the Chiefs’ practice squad after the game.

I liked Kemp in training camp, and with Thomas down, it appears he was the Chiefs’ next wideout up. It’s also worth noting that Albert Wilson is sitting out of practice Wednesday with a slight hamstring issue.

The Chiefs signed free agent WR Daniel Braverman to their practice squad to replace Kemp, also per Paylor.
