The Kansas City Chiefs will be playing a first place schedule once again next year. The Chiefs won the AFC West so they are rewarded (rewarded?) with a couple of other division-winning opponents on their schedule next year.
We know the Chiefs opponents on the 2018 schedule but we don’t know the exact date, time and order of games.
Home
Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers, Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Francisco 49ers
Away
Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers, Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks
Going by strength of schedule, the home schedule is easier than the road schedule. The Patriots AND Steelers on the road is some sort of gift from the NFL scheduling gods, not to mention the Rams and Seahawks on the road, too. That’s a heck of a slate but as we know the NFL changes so much from year to year it’s hard to predict exactly who will be good again next year (hint: the Patriots and Steelers will be good).
The NFL schedule is formulaic so we know most of it each year. The Chiefs will play their division home and away so that’s a total of 6/16. The Chiefs will also play one rotating AFC and NFC division each year. This year, that’s the NFC North and the AFC North. Those eight games bring us to 14/16. Then the Chiefs play the teams in the other two AFC divisions who finished in the same spot in the division as them. The Chiefs finished in first place so they play the first place teams in the AFC South (Jaguars) and AFC East (Patriots).
