Chiefs 2018 free agents: Is Dustin Colquitt coming back for a 14th season?

The Kansas City Chiefs will have decisions to make at a number of positions this offseason including ... punter? The Chiefs haven’t thought about their punter situation since Dustin Colquitt came aboard in 2005 (the most tenured Chief behind DJ) but he is a free agent entering this offseason.

Colquitt is 35 years old and the Chiefs are up against the cap (as it seems they are every year lately) which is why this is even a question. Colquitt is still very good and the Chiefs probably want him back. That they haven’t made any noise about losing Colquitt or made any moves to replace him makes me think they’re likely to keep him.

His last deal at five years and $18.75 million made him the highest paid punter in the league. The cap has gone up considerably since then. I would take Colquitt back (with the qualifier “at a reasonable price”). I follow him on social media and he seems pretty rooted in Kansas City with his family so I would be surprised if he played elsewhere.

Should the Chiefs bring Colquitt back?
