Game time is close as the Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready for the New England Patriots in the NFL’s opening kickoff. The Chiefs-Patriots are the first game on the NFL schedule since this date nine years ago when the Chiefs’ Bernard Pollard tore Tom Brady’s ACL. Times have changed since then but the Patriots dominance hasn’t.
You can find information here on how to stream the game live online with NBC Sports, how to watch the game on TV (on NBC, duh) as well as the odds, announcers, radio and more!
The Chiefs have faced the Patriots twice with Andy Reid - they won one and they lost one. The most recent loss came in the 2016 Divisional round where the Chiefs were 4.5 ‘dogs entering the game. Tonight, the Chiefs are 9-point ‘dogs. I guess that’s what happens when you raise a banner in front of your fans - Vegas gives you the points.
The NFL has done this season opener with the defending champion hosting the Thursday game since 2004 and the home team has won all but one of them. Additionally, Brady is 51-1 in his last 52 games against AFC teams at home.
There’s plenty going against the Chiefs but they’re no slouches either. Andy Reid is looking to make the playoffs for the fourth year in five tries in Kansas City. The Chiefs are bringing back arguably the best tight end in the NFL in Travis Kelce (take that, Gronk!) and we’re hoping to see a career year out of Alex Smith with the kid, Patrick Mahomes, pushing him from behind. There’s reason to believe the Chiefs will keep this competitive. After all, that’s why the NFL chose the Chiefs for this game. They thought it gave them the best chance at a good game on a big stage like this.
