It’s way too early for these Alex Smith trade rumors

Usually when the biggest voice in NFL media mentions your team, you hear about it. And when it’s about your quarterback, you definitely hear about it.

Somehow, this latest report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on KC Chiefs QB Alex Smith fell flat. I didn’t hear anyone talking about Schefter’s Sunday report that the Chiefs are “expected to” listen to trade offers for Alex after the season.

Schefter probably has information I don’t - he definitely does - but this feels like reading the tea leaves. Shoot, Alex Smith himself probably agrees the Chiefs are expected to listen. He acknowledged this could be his final year in KC. I’m not poo-ing on Schefter’s report, I’m just saying that Chiefs fans know all this.

Chiefs fans also know this could end up being not true. What if Alex Smith brings the Chiefs to a Super Bowl? It’s obviously way too early - we know that - but the Chiefs look like the best team in football through two weeks and have the toughest win of the season in New England on opening night. Are you going to trade Alex after the Super Bowl?

My point here is that we have a long way to go. If the Chiefs lose their next three games, that’s going to color the situation a little differently, isn’t it? I really, really doubt the Chiefs have made up their minds and decided they’re definitely going one way or the other. And even if they have made up their mind, I doubt they’re telling Adam Schefter that.

Since it’s too early to talk about this ... let’s talk about it with this poll:
