Chiefs C Mitch Morse is injured, spotted with crutches

Chiefs 27, Eagles 20: Five takeaways from the game plus your questions and comments.

KC Chiefs coach Andy Reid said after Sunday’s 27-20 win over the Eagles that center Mitch Morse has a foot sprain. Reid uses sprain or strain for just about everything so personally I’m waiting for further confirmation today on the injury.

Apparently, I’m not as observant as the KC Star’s Terez Paylor who noticed in the locker room after the game that Morse was on crutches and had a cast on his foot.

I was in the locker room too but didn’t see Morse (I was busy laughing at Chris Jones).

Let’s hope that this is actually a sprain and a short-term thing. The Chiefs can handle a short-term injury to just about any player on the team. A couple weeks or a month? Sure, Zach Fulton can step in for Morse. It’s not ideal but Fulton is a pretty good backup option. Plus, the Chiefs are good enough all around that they can withstand losing Morse for a bit.

Emphasis on for a bit. The Chiefs don’t want to be without Morse for the entire season. He is a terrific center who helps them do quite a bit. Nothing against Fulton but he’s not on Morse’s level. The Chiefs offensive line’s arrow is pointing up (thanks, Todd Haley) but the Eagles game showed they’re not quite ready for the best front sevens in the league. They still have work to do and they need Morse for that.

So, we’ll see. I want to hear Reid say again today that it’s still a foot sprain.
