Justin Houston says the Chiefs defense wasn’t good enough against the Eagles

Love this attitude from Justin Houston. The KC Chiefs linebacker spoke to the media after the chiefs 27-20 win over the Eagles and he wasn’t mad but he wasn’t overly happy either. It’s clear the bar is much higher for this Chiefs defense than the 20 points they gave up to Philadelphia (the Chiefs had given up about 14 per game in their last eight at home).

“We did OK,” Houston said. “Not where we want to be, not where we need to be. The defense needs to be more dominant as a whole. We gave up too many plays on the field. They had, I think, 25 first downs. That’s way too many first downs for us to be the defense we claim we are.”

Someone asked about Chris Jones’s big game with two sacks and an interception.

“(Chris Jones) played great,” Houston continued. “It’s not just about one person. It’s about us as a whole. I can come out and have 20 sacks in a game but if we don’t dominate as a whole it doesn’t matter what one person does.”

Again, I love this attitude. The Chiefs have Super Bowl aspirations and they should. They’ve done the playoffs in three of the past four years, they’ve won the division and they’ve been to the divisional round a couple of times. The next step is the Super Bowl and Houston has that on his mind.
