KC Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub dropped a little insight that we’ll file away for use after this season. The Chiefs are playing the Eagles this week and Toub started his NFL career off in Philly 16 years ago.
He talked about working for the Eagles and someone asked if Eagles coach Doug Pederson tried to hire him when he left for Philly last year.
“No,” Toub said. “I think Andy (Reid), one thing he does is he protects his coaches. You might get another job somewhere but his guys are off limits. He’s made that clear to me last year when I interviewed.”
Interesting! I wondered how this dynamic played out. I always assumed this type of conversation took place.
One name I thought of was new Bills coach Sean McDermott, who is a former Andy Reid assistant. He hired Chiefs WR coach David Culley this offseason. Reid said at the time that Culley was taking the Bills quarterbacks job in order to help him become a head coach in the future so they did talk about that.
We’ll file this away for January when the head coaching talks pick up.
