The Kansas City Chiefs had a couple of player of the week candidates and in the case of a tie give it to the quarterback. The NFL named Alex Smith the AFC offensive player of the week.

Alex completed 80 percent of his passes for 368 yards and four touchdowns, including two 70-plus yard scores. After watching him sack himself in the first half, I’ll admit I didn’t expect this type of performance from him. There were calls for Patrick Mahomes pretty early on. Then he turned it on with a couple of big time passes to Tyreek Hill and Kareem Hunt.
Alex is the first Chief to win AFC player of the Week in Week 1 since Joe Montana (1993) and Steve Bono (1995).
What a season this has been already!
