The Kansas City Chiefs have four quarterbacks on the roster and in Friday’s preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers they will each play a quarter. Andy Reid spoke to the media on Tuesday - the Chiefs final day of practice before Friday’s game - and said that the rotation would be the same as in camp and they would each get about a quarter.
This is the breakdown:
First quarter: Alex Smith
Second quarter: Tyler Bray
Third quarter: Patrick Mahomes
Fourth quarter: Joel Stave
If Alex leads the first team offense right down the field and scores a touchdown, it wouldn’t surprise me if they yanked him after that so the playing time could be a little fluid give or take a few minutes.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if Mahomes went into the fourth quarter. He’s obviously the quarterback of the future and should get more reps at the expense of Stave. It just depends how the game is going.
The other part of this is Tyler Bray. If the Chiefs make Mahomes the top backup, would Bray have a spot on the team? Is he auditioning for other teams out there?
