Chiefs training camp: Phillip Gaines sees first team reps with Terrance Mitchell’s injury

Update: Chiefs say Terrance Mitchell has a sore hamstring

This is for you Phillip Gaines believers (lookin’ at you, MNChiefsfan). The Kansas City Chiefs have him getting some first team snaps as Terrance Mitchell has headed to the trainer’s tent.

No word yet on Mitchell’s injury but this is an interesting look into the Chiefs secondary depth chart (which is probably changing every day). Gaines has gotta be on the bubble but he has the speed and length that the Chiefs like at that position. I can easily see a scenario where he makes the team. With his injury history, it’s hard to count on him as a regular player but he could be a role player or a backup.

Opposite Marcus Peters has been Steven Nelson in the base defense. When the Chiefs go to a subpackage, Nelson moves inside and Mitchell has been outside.

We’ll wait to see what comes of Mitchell’s injury.
