Chiefs feeling good about K Cairo Santos being ready for Patriots game

The Kansas City Chiefs are carrying two kickers on their roster at the moment but they’re hoping they won’t have to do that this weekend when they’re forced to cut down from 90 players to 53.

Chiefs kicker Cairo Santos has started to kick in practice after missing the past two games with an injury.

“He kicked (Sunday),” Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub said on Monday. “You guys saw him out there kicking. He is still in the hands of the trainers. Ultimately the trainers will give advice to Andy (Reid) and Andy makes the final decision. So we will see.”

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Tuesday he is feeling good about Santos being available for Week 1 in New England.

The Chiefs signed Sam Ficken in his absence but presumably don’t want two kickers on the roster after cut downs on Saturday. That means kicking this week and perhaps even this game could be important for Santos to show that he’s healthy.

I don’t really care whether he kicks in this preseason finale as long as he’s ready for Week 1 in New England. haven’t worried about the Chiefs and a kicker for a long time because Santos has been pretty reliable so it’s been an odd feeling wondering if he will be out there. It sounds like he should be good for the games that count though.
