ESPN’s Mike Sando spoke to a bunch of NFL front office folks and a few head coaches for his annual QB tier rankings. The idea being that the top tier is a 1 which is where Tom Brady ranks. The bottom tier is a 5.
Would you believe me if I told you Chiefs QB Alex Smith landed in the middle? He was 20th on the list with a 2.82 ranking.
The piece included a couple of anonymous quotes from the voters and each of them credited Andy Reid for some of the success.
One quote said: “Andy does such a great job of understanding him and what he is, and being able to keep that offense going by giving Alex so many answers in the passing game.”
Another said: "Andy is really good, and they have got Brad Childress there, who people don't really understand is the real deal.”
I agree that Reid and Harbaugh got the most out of Alex. That’s probably underselling him on some level but Alex’s past two coaches have been ideal for him. Chiefs fans are hoping that we’re saying the same thing about Reid and Mahomes in a few years.
