The Kansas City Chiefs will see their quarterback of the future for another full quarter, according to KC Chiefs coach Andy Reid who told the press after Wednesday’s practice his plan for playing time this Saturday against the Bengals.
Alex Smith will play first half Saturday, Patrick Mahomes will play the third quarter, and Tyler Bray will play the fourth, per Andy Reid.

So, it sounds like the Chiefs will get to see Mahomes with the second team if Alex Smith and the first team are playing the entire first half. That’s a step up from him being the third one in last weekend. I want to see Mahomes not only with the second team but I would also like to see him get some first team work too (just in case). I wouldn’t be surprised if Mahomes came in earlier than Reid said as he did last week.
Next week, the Chiefs starters could play into the third quarter or all of the third quarter in the third preseason game so we’ll have to see what that means for Mahomes and his playing time. I imagine the Chiefs give him a ton of work in the preseason finale when most of the Chiefs starters have historically sat.
Mahomes was supposed to play the third quarter in the first preseason game last week but he ended up coming in in the second quarter so he got some extra time.
