Former Chiefs CB Javier Arenas joins Alabama coaching staff

Former KC Chiefs draft pick Javier Arenas is getting into coaching. According to a report from the Tuscaloosa News, Arenas, 29, is joining Nick Saban’s coaching staff at Alabama in some role.

Former Alabama consensus All-American Javier Arenas has joined the Alabama staff, The Tuscaloosa News has learned.

Areanas’ role is yet to be defined. The former standout defensive back and returner has been spotted at the Crimson Tide’s practices this week. He has been shadowing the coaching staff to determine if coaching is something the 29 year old wants to pursue.

Arenas was the Chiefs 2010 second round pick. He lasted about three years with the Chiefs and never really broke through in the NFL.

Getting in good with a coach like Saban is smart. The same goes for Michael Vick interning with Andy Reid and the Chiefs this summer. Coaching is often about who you know as much as what you know and Saban is the best in college football.
