The Kansas City Chiefs are into day three of training camp practices on Sunday. They’re starting at 8:15 a.m. (Arrowhead Time) on the campus of Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.
It’s going to be in the low 80s and the pads come on today for the first time in camp. If you’re on the fence about attending Chiefs camp, today’s the day to do it. I don’t know if they’ll actually be tackling yet - the Chiefs are one of the few teams that still do tackle in camp - but this is the first day they can be in pads.
Tackling changes things, obviously, Receivers going across the middle suddenly have to perk up (not that they would get laid out here ... well, probably not) and the run game starts to feel a little more real. It’s just closer to real football with tackling and pads.
Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson was asked earlier this week if he, coming off his Achilles injury, will be ready to hit right away and he said he would be.
