Chiefs reportedly had interest in Lucky Whitehead, who was claimed by Jets

The Kansas City Chiefs were among the teams who were interested in claiming WR Lucky Whitehead off of waivers this week, according to a report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. Whitehead was cut by the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the week and claimed by the New York Jets on Wednesday. (Update: If the Chiefs had interest, it wasn’t enough to put in a waiver wire claim on him)

Why would the Chiefs be interested in him? He has 20 rushes and nine receptions in his career but he does have over 30 career kick returns so my guess is, with Tyreek Hill getting more time on offense, they were looking for help in the return game. This is something to keep an eye on as cut downs loom next month.

The story behind Whitehead is that it was reported that he had been arrested for stealing weeks earlier and skipped his court date. The Cowboys cut him when that was made public. BUT! The police later determined that they had the wrong guy. It was mistaken identity. The charges were dropped.

Whitehead is a 5’10, 163-pound receiver out of Florida Atlantic. He’s been in the league for two years, both with the Cowboys.
