Pro Football Focus has a neat idea for a mock draft which they are calling a Foundation Draft. It’s a mock draft with every player in the world available with age taken into account. So Tom Brady at 39 years old may not be as good of a value as Aaron Rodgers at 33 years old. It’s an interesting concept that created a fun post you can read here.
The Patrick Mahomes one obviously caught my eye. He went 13th in this mock draft, which is certainly higher than I thought he would. PFF talked about his big play potential and that he “fits the trends of the league well - big passing games and spread-out mismatches.”
The pass rushers started coming a couple picks after Mahomes. But the pick directly after Mahomes? Matthew Stafford. Frankly, I would take Stafford over Mahomes right now. He is only 29 years old and more of a sure thing than Mahomes. If Stafford were older I get it but with the way quarterbacks age he could have another 6-8 years of his prime remaining. That one is a bit of a head scratcher for me.
The other head scratcher for me was Jadeveon Clowney going 21st. That’s ridiculous. That’s almost like saying Eric Fisher doesn’t own JJ Watt.
