Who gains the most with the Chiefs cutting Jeremy Maclin?

The Kansas City Chiefs Friday night surprise will reset the Chiefs WR corps. Who gains the most from the Chiefs cutting Jeremy Maclin?

Demarcus Robinson. I think he gains more than anyone else, actually. The Chiefs run a bunch of three receiver sets and so far I see Tyreek and Chris Conley being two of those guys. Who is the third? Albert Wilson, maybe. Demarcus Robinson has been in the offense for a year so I give him the edge over fourth round pick Jehu Chesson. Robinson could be that third guy.

Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Tyreek won’t be a traditional replacement for Maclin playing every snap at receiver but he is replacing him as one of the top options in the Chiefs offense. Kelce was always going to be the man - he went over 100 yards in three of the four games Maclin missed last year - but Tyreek was a surprise last year. I speculated that Tyreek’s emergence played a role in the Chiefs decision to cut Maclin. He was a surprise weapon last year; the Chiefs are now counting on him to be a weapon again.

Chris Conley. I will mention him but he’s not the first person that came to mind for me. I would need to see a big step up from him in year three. I don’t think lack of opportunities has been his problem.

Someone else. Seantavious Jones? Gehrig Dieter? One of these guys we don’t know very well has a shot to make the roster now. The Chiefs usually keep six receivers - Tyreek, Conley, Robinson, Chesson are locks. Albert Wilson and De’Anthony Thomas could factor in or one of those undrafted free agents will win a spot. This affects someone else on the roster ... we just don’t know who will take the opportunity and run with it yet.
