Free agent LB Zach Orr was a second-team All-Pro in the 2016 season before he was forced to retire at the age of 24 due to a rare spinal condition. Now that the former undrafted free agent has gotten a positive second opinion, he is considering a return to the NFL. Because he was scheduled to be a free agent in 2017, he would immediately become a free agent if he returns.
It sure sounds like he is actually returning because he already has a free agent visit lined up, according to ESPN.
Free-agent LB Zach Orr will visit the Lions on Thursday. Eight teams have reached out so far since Orr told NFL Network this morning he was okay to play.
Did the Chiefs reach out to Orr? They could use some insurance with Derrick Johnson’s situation and by cutting Jeremy Maclin they have a little bit of cap space.
The problem is that the Chiefs don’t have a GM. They could show interest anyway - Andy Reid has control of the building, I’m sure - but it’s a weird position to be in. A good player is available and you don’t have someone running your front office.
