Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said he would run the Chiefs GM search over the next few weeks and that will reportedly begin with Brett Veach. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Clark will interview the Chiefs co-director of player personnel, Brett Veach.

Get to know Veach in this piece right here. I think Veach has to be among the front runners because he is already in the Chiefs front office and it’s so close to the season. The continuity for a team that’s been in the playoffs three of the last four years seems to be important. I like the way the Chiefs are running right now so I would sign off on hiring Veach, who was reportedly in the mix for the Bills GM job earlier this year.
Veach is the top in-house candidate, at least as far as we know. Mike Borgonzi is another potential in-house candidate but we haven’t heard if the Chiefs will interview him or not.
Clark specifically said there will be internal and external candidates so we expect other interviews. Rapoport reported on Sunday that the Chiefs reached out to ESPN’s Louis Riddick, which he denied. Rapoport, who has been pretty plugged in with the Chiefs over the years, hasn’t taken that report back so I assume he still stands by it.
