Chiefs owner Clark Hunt made a little news today. And I’m not talking just about the firing of GM John Dorsey. Clark wrote a letter to season ticket holders after the announcement that Dorsey was out and said that the Chiefs will conduct a GM search that includes both internal and external candidates.
It was a difficult decision, but after a through evaluation of the entire football operation, I felt it was best to make a change. I have a tremendous amount of respect for John, and my family and I sincerely appreciate his contributions to the success of the Chiefs over the last four and a half years. I have no doubt that John will have other opportunities, and today’s announcement allows him to pursue those as we continue our preparations for the upcoming season and the seasons to come.
In the coming weeks, I will conduct a search for the next general manager which will include both internal and external candidates. I believe that we have a strong foundation in place, and we will continue to work tirelessly to build on the success we’ve sustained over the last four seasons.
The news here is that they are doing a search for a new GM. I wondered if they had someone lined up already.
Internally, Brett Veach is a name that will be mentioned. He was reportedly in the running for the Bills GM job. With it being this close to the season, an internal promotion makes sense.
Externally, cast a wide net. The Chiefs job is a great job right now with Reid there and a strong roster. (Or it’s not a great job because you’ll be overshadowed by Reid)
Also note that Clark said Dorsey would have other opportunities. I’m sure he will.
