The Raiders paid Derek Carr $125 million for every time he’s beaten the Chiefs

Reports out of Oakland say Derek Carr has gone from rich to wealthy (yes, there is a difference). Carr reportedly inked a five-year extension worth a whopping $125 million to make him the highest paid player in NFL history.

It has NOT been confirmed but it’s believed - by me - that the Raiders agreed to pay Carr $125 million for every time he has beaten the Chiefs in his career. (I am stealing this terrific insight from reader @ChaseMikeHager. Thank you, Chase.)

Which is once. Carr has beaten the Chiefs one time and that came in the 2014 game when Eric Berry was shortly thereafter diagnosed with cancer. The Chiefs have won five straight against him.

Carr has thrown over 250 yards against Kansas City and Denver just once (and threw three picks in that game, a loss). That’s a quarter of his schedule every year.

Yeah, yeah, the Raiders are paying for future performance and not past performance but I had to take this opportunity to point out that the Chiefs own the NFL’s highest paid player.
