Patrick Mahomes will get a QB coach, find some WRs to throw to before Chiefs training camp

Patrick Mahomes was is about to finish up for summer vacation. That’s basically what this time is for NFL players as they finish up this portion of the offseason program and have 5-6 weeks free before training camps start.

How will Mahomes fill his time?

First, he said he’s going to get a quarterback coach to help him out. “Just trying to stay on top of the footwork and the playbook as much as possible,” Mahomes said. He doesn’t who that coach will be. I always wonder how teams feel about players getting their own personalized coaches. I look at Mahomes as Andy Reid’s piece of art and I doubt an artist like Reid wants others messing with his work. But I also doubt Mahomes is going rogue and doing something the Chiefs aren’t aware of. So.

The other thing he’s doing this summer is finding some receivers to throw to back home in East Texas. He named a couple of receivers from Tyler, Texas he can throw to this summer and also named draft pick Dede Westbrook and others in Dallas he can go see.

Mahomes had one of his best days of practice this week at minicamp. I know it’s just one practice and they aren’t wearing full pads but, man, this gets me excited.

“It definitely was a good day,” Mahomes said. “It’s all about stringing good days back to back and not having bad days. It’s all about progression and I’m just trying to get better every single day.”
