Chiefs RB stat projections split between Spencer Ware, Kareem Hunt

NFL writer Mike Clay put out some stat projections for the Kansas City Cheifs and yesterday we went over the quarterbacks. Today, let’s go over the running backs. Clay only includes Spencer Ware and Kareem Hunt here.

Spencer Ware: 775 yards rushing, 7.3 TDs

Kareem Hunt: 610 rushing yards, 5.2 TD

Ware had over 900 yards last year but he was the main back most of the time. I’m not sure that the Chiefs will have a single back taking the vast majority of the snaps. While it’s still early and we haven’t seen what he can do with the Chiefs, Kareem Hunt is someone folks think can contribute early so I could see a split like this.

If Ware goes back to playing like he did in the first six weeks of the season last year, he could be the guy. He was very, very good early on last year before a concussion seemed to slow down the momentum. It’s possible that concussion did affect him quite a bit and this year he can be that guy he was early on last year. That would be a good development for the Chiefs offense.

Not mentioned here is CJ Spiller and Charcandrick West. We have a pretty good idea who West is but we don’t know much about Spiller. Does he really have that twitch back? That could throw a wrench into these projections because Spiller could have a decent ceiling in this offense if he’s healthy and still has it. Or he doesn’t have it back and he doesn’t make the team. That’s the other possibility.
