Will the Kansas City Chiefs win more than nine games next year?

NFL: Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Do odds from Vegas really matter four months out from the regular season beginning? Probably not. (Heck, you could say that Vegas odds never really matter.) Nonetheless, Vegas put out its over/under for total wins by each NFL team in 2017 last week.

For the Chiefs, Vegas currently has them winning nine games this season. That seems low.

The Chiefs are predicted to finish with the second-highest amount of wins within the division. The Raiders, fresh off the signing of Marshawn Lynch, led the AFC West with 9.5 wins. Vegas gave Denver 8.5 wins and the Chargers 7.5.

Looking at the rest of the league, nine other teams are projected to win 10 or more games in 2017. KC is tied with three other teams for nine wins. Both the Ravens and Titans (9.5 projected wins) are notable teams expected to finish better than the Chiefs.

It’s really still too early for predictions, but it’s interesting to see how people outside of town view the Chiefs. Derek Carr and Lynch will make the Raiders tough to battle in the standings all season long, so there isn’t too much of a surprise that they are expected to finish a bit better.

Last week’s, dare I say “troubling,” news of the Broncos signing Jamaal Charles (sigh) to a one-year deal could bolster the offense in Denver a bit. Does anybody really know how Charles will perform, though? No.

The numbers and predictions will change before the Chiefs kickoff the season in New England. But until then, this is all part of the offseason fun.
