"It's a lot more than I had at Texas Tech," Mahomes said, via ESPN. "Whenever I got up there and called it, then I had to look out there and see the guys and make sure everybody was in the right position. That was pretty much the process, and it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be."

“I feel like my offense didn’t really utilize me in the passing game early on in my career," Hunt said over the weekend at the Kansas City Chiefs rookie camp. “[He then started] working hard and doing 7-on-7 and summer workouts and winning my one-on-one battles, the routes and stuff like that. My coach was, like, ‘Yeah, we’ve got to utilize you more out of the backfield and get you in space.’

Hunt and Mahomes quickly got to know each other after the draft, via social media and through texts. Hunt said Mahomes tracked down his number and sent him a text message prior to mini-camp.

Before Hunt made it to the practice field with his new teammates, he already had a new nickname.

“Special K,” Hunt told the Kansas City media with a laugh.

Chesson, who checked in at 6 feet 3 and 204 pounds at the Combine, put his impressive combination of size, catch radius and ball skills on display when he skied high in the air to haul in a deep ball from quarterback Joel Stave.

Based on the reaction from new receivers coach Greg Lewis, however, Chesson would soon learn that plays like this in the NFL were the expectation, not the exception – not that he had any doubt, of course.

“I studied all night,” Mahomes said. “I’m trying to stay on it.”

Mahomes, who recently became the first quarterback the Chiefs have taken in the first round since 1983, wanted to make a positive first impression with his new teammates on Saturday, the beginning of the Chiefs’ three-day rookie minicamp.
