This interview with Leigh Steinberg, the agent for Patrick Mahomes, was linked in our FanShots this morning and it’s a pretty good listen. Steinberg has a cool story and talked about his long-time relationship with the Chiefs dating back 40 years, apparently.
“I have a long relationship with the Chiefs,” Steinberg said. “It goes back to a friendship with Lamar Hunt and a friendship with Clark Hunt. As a matter of fact, we selected (Clark) for our philanthropical award at our Super Bowl party this year and ironically Patrick Mahomes ended up giving the award with me to Clark Hunt.

“It goes back to 1977 and a running back named Mark Bailey, 1980 with Brad Budde, years and years with Derrick Thomas and Deron Cherry and then Tony Gonzalez.
“They became interested in Patrick pretty early in the process. But it’s now an elongated second season of scouting. We knew they had interest. Our feeling was that the best place for Patrick would be an organization with great visionary, stability and ownership with a talented front office with a coach and also with the opportunity to learn behind a talented player. The football gods smiled on us and it all happened.”
