5 questions about the Kansas City Chiefs roster after the 2017 NFL Draft

The final three picks will certainly have some competition, I think. Jehu Chesson joins a crowded WR room, Ukeme Eligwe is behind Derrick Johnson (and others, possibly) and Leon McQuay looks like the 10th defensive back.

What are the remaining questions for the Chiefs roster after the 2017 NFL Draft? Let's take a look.

Will all six draft picks make the roster?

The final three picks will certainly have some competition, I think. Jehu Chesson joins a crowded WR room, Ukeme Eligwe is behind Derrick Johnson (and others, possibly) and Leon McQuay looks like the 10th defensive back.

Who will the No. 2 quarterback be?

Chiefs GM John Dorsey told the media that The Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes but made it clear Alex Smith is the starter. So could Mahomes be the No. 2 or will it be Tyler Bray? Alex Smith has only missed a couple of games due to injury in his time in Kansas City so it's possible the No. 2 ultimately doesn't matter. I could also see the Chiefs saying this is a total redshirt year for Mahomes and Bray is the No. 2. I'm not sure which way the Chiefs are leaning.

How will the RB depth shake out?

The early prediction is that Spencer Ware and Kareem Hunt are your top two backs. The next question comes what comes behind those two. CJ Spiller and Charcandrick West will be battling for the playing time. I kinda like Darrin Reaves too even though he's hurt and hasn't played. Ultimately the third back probably doesn't matter much unless we see an injury.

How crowded is the WR room?

Chris Conley and Albert Wilson congratulated Chiefs fourth round pick WR Jehu Chesson, who will be competing with those two for playing time. Jeremy Maclin, Tyreek Hill and Chris Conley are locks on the roster. Chesson probably is, too. That leaves Demarcus Robinson, Albert Wilson, De'Anthony Thomas and others competing for likely two spots.

What does the D-Line rotation look like?

The top three defensive linemen appear to be Chris Jones, Allen Bailey and Bennie Logan. Where does Tanoh Kpassagnon fit in year one? He was described as a little raw coming from Villanova so I could easily see him settling in as a reserve this year along with Rakeem Nunez-Roches and Jarvis Jenkins. The defensive line lost two starters last year so that's another way that playing time could open up.
