The Kansas City Chiefs will be hitting the field this weekend. Well, some of the Chiefs players. The NFL announced the full offseason schedules for each team and while we knew the dates of the Chiefs OTAs we didn’t know when the rookie minicamp would be. That will be this weekend, May 6-8.
The Chiefs can get all their draft picks in town to participate in the minicamp - even if they haven’t signed their contracts. They would sign an injury waiver (which begs the question, why not just have them sign the full contract?).
The rookie minicamp also includes the Chiefs undrafted free agent signings, which they have yet to announce. The Chiefs could also have some second-year players there.
They will also have a bunch of tryout players there. That’s why you’re seeing a bunch of these reports of the Chiefs bringing in a guy for a tryout. That’ll be going down at rookie minicamp this weekend.
These won’t be full practices with tackling or anything like that so there’s only so much you can learn about the players. It can give us an idea of which undrafted players the Chiefs like the most depending on the rotation out there.
We’ll have rookie minicamp this weekend and then a break for a couple of weeks before the first set of OTAs. Football is on its way back...
