Let’s take a look at some stat projections that have come out from NFL writer Mike Clay. He predicted the stats for some of the Chiefs offensive and defensive players and we’ll run through them. Today, let’s look at the quarterbacks.
Alex Smith: 3,261 yards, 17 TDs, 9 INTs
Patrick Mahomes: 216 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Poll
Over or under 3,261 yards for Alex Smith?
The yards seem a little low to me. Alex has been between roughly 3,200 yards and 3,500 yards since he came to Kansas City. I would take the over here, assuming he’s healthy all season. He has improved on his yardage in each of the past three seasons.
The touchdowns seem about right. He should be right in the high teens or low 20s. He’s been had a high of 23 touchdowns here (his first year) and a low of 15 (last year).
The interceptions are a little high. He’s had between six and eight interceptions in his time in Kansas City.
Whether Mahomes gets any snaps depends on whether he can beat out Tyler Bray. I think the Chiefs would prefer Mahomes not play at all in year one but that’s just a guess on my part. I don’t really have a good feeling which way this one is going to go.
